The Veterinary Association of Namibia (VAN) is the professional organisation representing veterinarians across Namibia.

The VAN serves the veterinary profession by:

  • Promoting continuing education for all members via the annual VAN Congress and supporting other high quality events and opportunities.
  • Acting and speaking as one voice on matters that affect the profession and ensuring that opinions of VAN members inform policy-makers
  • Promoting, improving, supporting and protecting the interests and status of the veterinary profession, and making the profession visible
  • Ensuring that all VAN members adhere to the VAN Professional Code of Conduct meant to promote just and current practice
  • Providing excellent service to members and striving to achieve high standards of management and governance.

Veterinary Council Matters

VAN and the Veterinary Council of Namibia are not the same institution. Veterinarians who wish to be registered to practice in Namibia, or students who would like to do their practicals with either private or state veterinarians, must contact the Council. Please visit their website here:

State Vet Related Queries

Any queries regarding state veterinary affairs such as animal movement permits need to be dealt with by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform -Directorate of Veterinary Services.
